The Benefits of Hedging Your Garden

Planting hedges around your garden is an effective way to add privacy and beauty to your outdoor space. Not only do they provide a barrier against nosy neighbours, but they also act as a windbreak and noise-reduction feature.

We currently offer two types of hedging – Mixed Native and Evergreen. Both types have their own benefits and are easy to care for once they’ve been initially planted.

Types of Hedging
When it comes to choosing hedging for your garden, the type of hedge is important to consider. Evergreen hedges are the most popular because they stay green all year round and require minimal maintenance. They are also extremely versatile – you can choose from many sizes and shapes such as box hedging or green beech.
Mixed native hedges are made up of several different species that flower at different times throughout the year. Whichever type you choose will depend on the look you want to achieve in your garden.

Planting Hedges
Planting hedges is simple enough – simply dig two rows 75cm apart and plant the hedge plants in each row at even intervals. Once planted, it’s important to water them regularly until they become established – we also recommend purchasing rabbit guards to protect the hedging whips. To ensure that the hedge grows properly, trim it once a year by cutting off any dead or overgrown branches with secateurs or loppers. This will help keep it dense and full so that it provides maximum privacy for your garden space. Finally, mulch around the base of each plant every spring with organic matter such as compost or wood chips – this will help retain moisture and boost growth in summer months when rainfall is scarce!

Hedging is an effective way to add beauty and privacy to any garden space – plus it’s easy enough for anyone to do! There are many different types of hedging available from evergreen varieties through to mixed natives, so you can choose whichever best suits the look you’re trying to achieve in your outdoor area. With minimal effort required after initial planting – just trimming once a year – planting a hedge around your garden is well worth considering if you want more privacy or just want something beautiful growing along its perimeter!
