The superlatives that attach to its rare flavour have been consistent for three centuries! The sweets known as pear drops is the essence of the flavour of Ashmead's Kernel! Fruit is pale green with strong, sweet-sharp, intense, acid drop flavour and white flesh.
Beautiful large white flowers in the spring, much better grown as a garden variety!
Planting Instructions
Ashmead’s Kernei is in pollination group 3 and is self-fertile so it needs a suitable pollination partner nearby (ideally within 1/2 mile radius). It is not a good pollinator for other apple trees.
Apple trees should be spaced according to their rootstock, M26 (semi-dwarf) rootstock requires approximately 3m(10ft) between trees.
Soak the ground where you are planting the tree prior to planting and ensure you keep it well-watered.
