The more common of the two native oak trees. A large, broad dome-shaped tree. The leaves are dark green above and paler underneath, tthey will turn orange-rusty brown in autumn. The tree will produce masses of acorns in September and October.
This is a large tree and needs plenty of space around it. Size after ten years will be 7m(24ft) x 5m(17ft), however the tree will continue growing for many years.
Planting Instructions
Needs to be planted in deep fertile soils.
Soak the planting area before planting and keep well-watered afterwards to ensure the tree becomes established.
